PURPOSE

The purpose of this course is to equip solar installation professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the unique critical risks and controls within the solar industry. By integrating real-world height scenarios, the course aims to provide an immersive and impactful learning experience that enhances safety and efficient solar installations.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • The course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being trained.
  • Attendees must be aged 15 years or older (as per WorkSafe requirements).
COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the successful completion of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Understand the unique risks faced by the solar industry and apply appropriate risk controls.
  • Identify safe anchor points and their correct application.
  • Use proprietary fall arrest systems effectively.
  • Install and dismantle straightforward proprietary fall arrest systems using designated anchor points.
  • Check, fit, and correctly use a safety harness.
  • Safely use a safety harness where a fall hazard exists at height.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the rescue plan to be activated in the event of a fall.

This course is non-unit standard based. No unit standards will be awarded on completion of this course. It has been developed using key components from the unit standards listed below:
  • 23229 – Use safety harness system when working at height
  • 25045 – Employ height safety equipment in the workplace
  • 15757 – Use, install and disestablish temporary proprietary height safety systems when working at height
  • 17600 – Explain safe work practices for working at heights
SPECIAL NOTE

You will need to provide a roof or solar training structure, safe access, anchor points or engineered fall protection, harness systems, ladders or access equipment, rescue arrangements, PPE, and site isolation controls where solar assets are used.
