PURPOSE

This course is for individuals who are part of a Health and Safety Committee (HSC) within an organisation or intending to join a health and safety committee in the future.

 

The course enables the individual to understand the role and function of a Health and Safety Committee in a New Zealand workplace.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the successful completion of this course, the learner will know:

  • Benefits of work representation.
  • Functions and purpose of a health and safety committee in terms of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA).
  • Requirements and obligations of a PCBU under the HSWA.
  • Meeting frequency requirements.
  • Reviewing and preparing for a health and safety committee meeting.
  • Escalation and follow-up of issues to be actioned.
  • Participate in, at least three health and safety committee meetings.
ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Learners will participate in a H&S meeting during this course.

 

PLUS, Learners must participate in TWO more H&S Committee meetings within an organisation and provide evidence, e.g., meeting minutes. Evidence can be given to the assessor on the day of the course or sent to the assessor after the course.

 

NOTE: Evidence must show participation (not just attendance).

SPECIAL NOTES

We recommend that the trainer is advised of specific H&S issues/concerns within the organisation and a minimum of three 3 trainees prepared to act as minute taker/ timekeeper and chairperson.
