PURPOSE

People credited with this unit standard are able to, for a vessel-mounted crane in a marine application: eliminate, isolate or minimise hazards during a lift; prepare a crane and lifting gear for use; explain vessel stability during transfer of seafood vessel loads; transfer a seafood vessel load; and secure a vessel-mounted crane, stow lifting equipment and complete documentation

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the successful completion of the course the trainee will be able to:

  • Eliminate, isolate or minimise hazards during a lift using a vessel-mounted crane.
  • Prepare a vessel-mounted crane and lifting gear for use in a marine application.
  • Explain vessel stability during transfer of seafood vessel loads using a vessel-mounted crane.
  • Transfer a seafood vessel load using a vessel-mounted crane.
  • Secure a vessel-mounted crane, stow lifting equipment and complete documentation.
SPECIAL NOTE

There is a requirement for trainees to provide evidence i.e. logbook; of at least 20 lifts using a vessel-mounted crane in the workplace prior to the unit standard being awarded.
