The aim of this course is to produce a telehandler operator that will have the knowledge, skills and attributes for all essential areas of the units of competency covered in the telehandler course undertaken, enabling the individual to operate the telehandler effectively and safely. The trainee will also be able to demonstrate the appropriate responsibilities of a telehandler operator with emphasis on accident prevention and operator responsibility.
Theory and practical lessons will include the following:
- Hazard controls are described in accordance with company requirements.
- Telehandler and attachment are checked and prepared before use.
- Operate a telehandler.
- Carry out post-operational procedures.
The trainees will undergo formal in-class training in association with unit standard 23637 prior to being assessed. This will be followed by the practical aspects of operating a telehandler. The practical assessments should take approximately 15 minutes per trainee.
- Drivers must hold a current full driver licence appropriate to the weight range of the telehandler Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) driven
- If driven for on road use, W Endorsement must be provided and is required for the telehandler
- Learners must be 15 years or older to enrol in this course
- Secondary school students are not eligible to attend this course
To complete this unit standard, evidence is required of a minimum of 50 hours or 25 lifts of verified workplace experience operating a telehandler. These may be completed before or after the course, but they must be completed before final assessment can take place. Where possible assessment for this unit standard will be completed in the workplace.
