People accredited with these unit standards are able to demonstrate knowledge of:

• Asbestos and associated health risks.
• Measures to protect people doing asbestos-related work against asbestos exposure risk.

After successfully completing this course, the learner will be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of asbestos and associated health risk.
• Demonstrate knowledge of measures to control respiratory risk for people doing asbestos-related work.

This unit standard is for people whose work may bring them into contact with asbestos.

The VHNZ course is designed for individuals engaged in unlicensed asbestos work – those working with bonded non-friable) asbestos in small quantities.

While there are no formal pre-requisite requirements for the course, it is advantageous to have prior knowledge and hold unit standard 2138 – Demonstrate understanding of asbestos and safety procedures.
