All level 4 NZQA qualified rope access operators and technicians areable to obtain a Scaffolding, Access and Rigging New Zealand (SARNZ) Certificate of Competence (CoC), which identifies their current proficiency to work in New Zealand.
Additionally, rope access operators with suitable internationally recognised (IRATA level 3) qualifications may also be able to obtain a SARNZ CoC.
However, key NZQA unit standards must be completed as part of the pre-requisite to cover New Zealand Health and Safety
policy and legislation that cannot be obtained internationally.

VHNZ provides the assessment for the Rope Access CoC.
NZQA:
- National Certificate in Rope Access Level 4.
Other:
- International Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA) Level 3 or ARAA Level 3 or equivalent.
- Completed SARNZ Challenge Assessment form showing assessed as “Competent” by a current SARNZ CoC Assessor (unless NZQA NZ Certificate has been completed within the last 3 months).
- NZQA unit standards 6400-6402 (First Aid).
- NZQA unit standards 15757 (Working at Height – Advanced).
SARNZ reserves the right to accept or decline international
qualifications as it deems appropriate.
This course requires a level of fitness to demonstrate competency for the skill being assessed.
